The Nichols Cemetery, a family cemetery is located in Northern Sumter County off Highway 475 West of Oxford.  (Long Hammock) It was established in the year of 1880 on land donated by Judson Nichols and his sons. The first burial was W. R. (Bob) Nichols in 1880, father of Judson Nichols. Note: headstone spelling is (W. R. Nickols)

One of the more notable plots was dedicated to the honor of one of Sumter County’s earliest residents, W. R. Nichols. He is registered as the second resident of Sumter County, moving here in 1848.

The easiest directions are: From SR 44 and Interstate 75, proceed West on SR 44, 1.7 miles. Turn right (North) on CR 475 and go 3.5 miles to the curve. Turn left at curve onto CR 245-E, at fork, go left on CR 246. Proceed for 1 mile and the cemetery is on the right. The cemetery is very well maintained. There were only a couple of headstones that was hard to read. At the time of inventory, there were 317 gravesites accounted for.
