ALAN MASON ABELE

    Alan Mason Abele was born in Philadelphia, Pa., March 16, 1901, a son of George B. and Ada Mason Abele.
    His education began at the Kersal (England) School, from 1908 to 1910, and at Harrow until 1911.  The following year he returned to Pennsylvania and continued his preparation for college at Haverford School, entering Haverford College in 1917, where he received the degree of A. B. in 1921.
    Mr. Abele has had several years’ residence in Europe and has traveled extensively in the United States and Canada.  He was at one time engaged in chemical research work for an oil company.  His newspaper connections, previous to his coming to Lake County, were as a member of the editorial staff of the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin and as night editor on the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel.  He has also written magazine articles and short stories.
    In March, 1928, Mr. Abele came to Mount Dora to become editor and publisher of the Mount Dora Topic.  He is unmarried.

W. F. AUSTIN

    W. F. Austin is a native of Washington County, Tennessee, where he was born October 1, 1879.  His father was Frederick H. and his mother Martha Hodges Austin.  He is a great-great-grandson of Stephen Austin who founded the town of Austin, Texas.
    He received his education in the schools of Tennessee and Kansas, to which latter state he was taken by his parents when a small boy.
    After residing in Colorado and other places for some years Mr. Austin came to Umatilla in 1913, where he has made an enviable name for himself as a contractor and builder, having erected about thirty-five houses in Umatilla during the past few years.  He also was the builder of the public school at Altoona and at Lady Lake.
    Besides his contracting business he is also interested in orange growing and is the owner of a splendid 20-acre grove.
    He has always been prominent in the affairs of Umatilla, and at one time served as a member of the town council.
    He was married to Lucy Kasler at Syracuse, Kansas, February 5, 1902, to which union the following children have been born: Elsie May (Mrs. W. W. Stoops), Helen, Elmer, Velma, and William.
