DEWEES, SANCHEZ, WIGHTMAN posted by Lynda Farley on Wednesday, October 1, 1997

Timothy WIGHTMAN born in CT, married Sarah Ann DEWEES (born about 1812), daughter of Philip DEWEES and Maria de Carmen Saturnina Rafaela SANCHEZ. He was a 'bar pilot' on the St Johns River and owned The Wightman House a hotel in Putnam Co. He is listed in census and fathered their last child in 1845. By 1850 census Sarah is listed as hotel keeper and children are listed, but not Timothy. It is thought that perhaps he died in a work related accident. He apparently died between 1845 and 1850. Cannot find death info, burial place, any information on his parents and/or siblings. Any help greatly appreciated!

HAYNES posted by Downie Granville on Thursday, January 1, 1998

My g-g uncle Melton HAYNES moved to Palatka in 1849 from Yalaha FL because of high tensions with local Indians. He was married at Palatka. He along with his brother Bunberry lived at the Greenfield Plantation. When the Civil War began Union forces came down from Jacksonville and warned the Haynes unless they were neutral they would have to leave. Since they were not, they fled. 47th Penn. Vol. "found the place deserted, reporting that a table with a large meat pie still warm, and other food, had been left by the Confederates, showing their quick depature." I have an original letter written by Bunberry Haynes in 1851 from the Greenfield Plantation at Palatka to his brother-in-law in N.C. Letter describes local area. Melton went on to fight with Second Florida Cavalry Company H under Capt John Jackson Dickison whose son Charles Dickison was killed during skirmish at Palatka Aug 3d 1864. I am trying to find out where this plantation was and if anything is left of it. I am willing to share letter. Thank you.

I believe they lived in the Orange Mills area, although John Henry Sanchez later homesteaded in Holy Branch near Elkton in St. Johns County around 1888. Any information about Delores 'Lola' Sanchez, Mauricio's daughter would be appreciated. Thank you.

DEWOLF, HOLLEY, HUNTER, TRICE posted by Fletcher Lee Trice on Saturday, March 21, 1998

I am interested in family stories and general details regarding my grandmother's mother's family. My grandmother was Nettie Louis HOLLEY (Nov.01,1895-Oct.05, 1967) who married Levant Prior DEWOLF, Sr.(May 19,1894-Feb. 23,1891). Grandmother Nettie's mother was Lillian E. HUNTER (1856-1947) who's husband, Nathaniel Alexander HOLLEY, died when Nettie was two years old, causing Lillian and daughters Rose and Nettie to move from Hope Station, SC down to Fruitland, Putnam Co.,FL where Lillian's HUNTER brothers had settled. I know a great deal about Nettie's husband, Levant a lifetime Putnam Co. fruit grower, Putnam County Commissioner, FL House of Representatives, etc. But I know very little about my HUNTER family. I would enjoy sharing information. My mother is Grace Marie DEWOLF who married William Benjamin TRICE, Jr. I was born in Alachua General and grew up in Ocala, FL, visiting Crescent City, Putnam Co. many times while growing up.
