JAMES ANDERSON (black), G.A.R., of Yalaha, was born August 1817 in Virginia and died April 4, 1904.  He married Mrs. Matilda Bullock, born 1830 in Georgia, in Lake County on January 6, 1895.  He is buried Bloomfield (colored) Cemetery.  James served as a Private and Corporal in Company C, 92nd Regiment, United States Colored Infantry.

EDWIN E. ANDREWS, G.A.R., of Leesburg, was born October 1829 in Ohio and died after the 1910 Federal census.  He is buried at Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg, along with his daughter Maggie L. Andrews English.  Edwin married in Ohio about 1850, where they lived in Medina County.  Elizabeth Ann Farnum was born December 1830 in Ohio and died before 1910, probably in Ohio.  He worked as a joiner, teamster, and druggist.  Edwin served as a Private, Company F, 166th Infantry Regiment Ohio.  He received a Federal pension, Cert #372,949.

EDWARD CURTIS ARCHER, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born July 7, 1846 in Harrison County, Virginia/West Virginia and died November 18, 1923 in Eustis.  He is buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  Edward married Mary Amanda Compton, November 26, 1872, Seward, Nebraska.  She was born September 1850 in Indiana, and died April 2, 1901, Seward County, Nebraska.  He married second about 1906 to Anna (mnu) born about 1856 in Illinois; third to Edna (mnu), born about 1865 in Ohio.  Edward served as a Private, Company C, 2nd Regiment, Wisconsin Cavalry.  He received a Federal pension, Cert #[hard ro read]/C2,560,496, filed in Nebraska.

NATHAN ADAMS BANKS, G.A.R., of East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, was born October 12, 1840 in Westchester County, New York, died June 8, 1925, Mount Dora, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He never married.  Nathan served as “Am. Passer” during the Civil War.

CHARLES MILLSPAUGH BARCLAY, G.A.R., of Astatula, was born February 6, 1822 in New York and died 1902.  He is buried Astatula Cemetery.  Charles married Susan M. Terwilliger/Twilliger about 1846.  She was born November 1830 in New York.  Note: WPA index shows his death as 1919; Florida Death Index as 1902 in Lake County. Service not given; lived in Jackson, Davis, Kansas by 1859; could not find any evidence of service.

JAMES BERGEN, G.A.R., was born October 1843 in Buffalo, New York and died May 19, 1923, Leesburg. He was buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg, May 21 by Rev. F.J. Wilson, St James Epis Ch.  He married first (unknown), second about 1907 (divorced), Mrs. Della Stevens Millard born March 1875 in Michigan, and third, before 1920, Anna (mnu) born about 1872 in New York.  In 1910 he was a night watchman at gas house in Jackson, Michigan.  James served as a Private in Companies C & E of 49th Regiment, New York Infantry and Company F of 21st Regiment, New York Infantry.  He applied for Federal pension in 1892 in Michigan, Cert #847397.

HENRY J. BLAISDELL, G.A.R., 1837-1919/9, service not given, included in WPA “Register of Deceased Veterans, Florida, #35, Lake County”.
HENRY J. BLAISDELL, G.A.R., died September 12, 1895.  He married Sarah A. (mnu).  Henry served as a Private and First Sergeant in Company C, 4th Cavalry Regiment Pennsylvania (64th Volunteers).  He received a Federal pension, filed for January 26, 1865, Cert #55764; his widow applied for a pension June 27, 1896, Cert #454429.

REV. WILLIAM STEPHEN BLAISDELL, G.A.R., of Victoria, was born September 22, 1837, Richford, Franklin, Vermont and died June 22, 1919.  He was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married Emily Chapman Fish, March 13, 1862 in Ira, Rutland, Vermont. She was born 1841 and died 1889, also buried Greenwood Cemetery. They were in Orange County in 1885.  [need to determine if service]

ETHAN BLISS, G.A.R., of Sorrento, was born August 31, 1842 in Huron County, Ohio and died April 19, 1927, Lake County.  He is buried Sorrento Cemetery.  Ethan married Bertha Brooks, December 31, 1873.  Bertha was born April 1854 in Ohio and died after 1910 census.  The first drug store [in Sorrento] was opened about 1886 by Dr. E. Bliss.  [see p. 73, 1929 Lake County History]  In 1900 they lived Bay Ridge, Orange County, Florida and in 1910, Jacksonville Ward 1, Duval County, Florida.  Nathan served as a Private and Corporal, 1st Independent Battery, Ohio Light Artillery.  He received a Federal pension, filed for in Florida, Cert #905703.

JOHN HENRY BRAMHALL, G.A.R., of Seneca, was born May 5, 1823 in New York and died March 28, 1900.  He was buried Seneca Cemetery.  About 1842, John married Marietta Stever who was born January 6, 1823 and died April 2, 1900, also buried in Seneca Cemetery.  The first settlers [of Seneca] were the Bramhalls, ...  [see p. 73, 1929 Lake County History]  John served from Roseville, Warren County, Illinois, as a Private in Company A, 83rd Regiment, Illinois Infantry.  He received a Federal pension, filed for in Florida, Cert #673415?

REV. JOHN BAUGHMAN BRANDT, G.A.R., was born August 29, 1838 in Fairfield County, Ohio, died January 6, 1910 and was buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He married first, Sarah Jennie Brandt, September 9 1862, Perry County, Ohio and second, about 1870, Emily A. Greene who was born October 13, 1844 in Ohio and died April 2, 1927; buried Lone Oak.  John was a minister, and served in Indianapolis, Indiana and St. Louis, Missouri. He served as a Private in Company F, 2nd Regiment, Ohio Infantry and as a Captain in Company H, 114th Regiment, Ohio Infantry, and lastly in Company H, 12th Regiment U.S. Veteran Reserve Corps.  John applied for a Federal pension July 18, 1890 in Missouri, Cert #1022082?; his widow applied February 18, 1910, in New York state, Cert #709556.

FRANK ALLEN BRAY, G.A.R., December 13, 1851, Stump Ridge, Wisconsin-November 27, 1918, Clermont; buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont,  He went to Nicolaus, Sutter, California, from Madison, Sandusky, Ohio, betwen 1870 and 1880, with his parents; left there after 1910.  service not given (no evidence of service; probably too young). 

ISAAC “Ike” H. BRITTON of Minneola, was born January 8, 1841 at Trenton, New Jersey and died January 15, 1933 at Minneola, Lake County, Florida; buried Minneola Cemetery.  Isaac was a cigarmaker.  He married first, about 1865, Mary L. (mnu) born about 1846 in New Jersey.  He married second, Mrs Annie Barbara Schneider Abbinger, March 13, 1905, Lake County.  She was born December 25, 1856, Switzerland and died July 27, 1939; also buried Minneola Cemetery.  The 1930 census indicated that Isaac had served in the Civil War, but the only information found was his draft record, July 1, 1863.

WILLIAM C. BROOKS, G.A.R., of Bay Ridge, Orange County, Florida, was born January 1824 in Oxford, Ohio and died 1902.  He was buried Sorrento Cemetery.  William married September 25, 1849, Preble County, Ohio, Lucy Ann Morey, born June 1826 in Summerville, Ohio. They lived Oxford, Butler County, Ohio.  William served in Company K, 167th Regiment, Ohio Infantry (National Guard), enlisting at the age of 40.  He received a Federal pension, filed for in Florida, Cert #857140.
 
CHARLES E. BROWN, G.A.R., was born October 1840 in Pennsylvania, died 1916, and buried Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  He married about 1863, Sarah M. or N. (mnu) who was born February 1864 in New York and died before 1910, Tioga County, New York.  They lived Smithfield, Bradford County, Pennsylvania and Tioga County, New York before coming to Florida.  Charles served as a Private in Company F, 6th Pennsylvania Reserves/35th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers.  Discharged on Surgeon's Certificate, July 15, 1862.  No pension found.

VARNUM BROWN, G.A.R., was born 1843 in Pomfret, Chautauqua, New York and died 1914.  He was buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont.  He married first, in Chautauqua County about 1867, Marion (mnu); second, about 1873, Dora J. Hall, born April 1845 in Pennsylvania.  She died after Varnam.  He enlisted at Buffalo, New York, and served as a Private in Company A, 49th Regiment, New York Infantry.  He was on the 1890 Veterans schedule in Coloma, Waushara, Wisconsin where he applied for a Federal pension, Cert #477807.  His wife applied 30 Jul 1914 in Florida after he died, but apparently died too soon to be approved.

ERASTUS B. BURNHAM, G.A.R., was born May 31, 1840 in Deerfield, Massachusetts and died August 4, 1926, Mount Dora.  He was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married Irvilla Amelia Slate, November 22, 1865, Bernardston, Franklin, Massachusetts.  She was born July 6, 1843 at the same place, and died 1927.  Erastus served as a Private in Company F, 52nd Infantry Regiment Massachusetts.  He was on the 1890 Veterans census at Monague, Franklin, Massachusetts, and received a Federal pension, Cert #411021

LATHAN B. BYRON, G.A.R., was born July 1833 in New York, died September 27, 1907.  He married about 1861, Caroline M. “Carrie” (mnu) who was born 1840 in Michigan and died May 17, 1908.  They had no surviving children, and are buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He was a farmer and carpenter.  Lathan served as a Sergeant in Companies A, E, & B in 13th Regiment, Michigan Infantry.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, January 7, 1890, Cert #631444; his widow applied October 22, 1907, but no cert was issued, maybe because she died too soon.

FREDERICK HOMER CARPENTER, G.A.R., of Leesburg, was born August 5, 1835, York County, Maine, died March 18, 1901 and was buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He married first before 1860, Jane E. (mnu) born about 1835 in Maine.  He married second before 1891, Mary L. Page Sannier who died before 1900.  He came to Leesburg from Louisville, Adams County, Ohio before 1900.  Frederick, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, served as a Private and Corporal in Company D, 17th Infantry Regiment Connecticut.  He was POW at Andersonville Prison, captured February 5, 1865.  Frederick applied for a Federal pension March 17, 1874, Cert #268432. 

SAMUEL H. CHAPMAN, G.A.R., was born April 30, 1820 in Ohio, died October 19, 1895, and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married Elizabeth Day, February 7, 1850, Marion County, Ohio.  She was born 1830 and died 1897.  Samuel served as a Captain in Company B, 5th Infantry Regiment Iowa; he received a Federal pension, Cert #162539.

FORREST aka FRED L. CHASE, G.A.R., of Mohawk, was born 1849 in Wilton, Franklin County, Maine, died before 1920, and was buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont.  After the War he lived in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, coming to Florida by 1898 from Cincinnati, Ohio. He married November 3, 1896, Jefferson County, Kentucky, Catherine Tanner “Kate” Demmond, born about 1861 in Illinois and died 1944.  He served as a Private in Company C, 2nd Regiment, Maine Cavalry.  The settlements of Mohawk lie around Plum Lake, a short distance east of Minneola.  In 1897, Dr. C.H. Stokes was influential in attracting F. L. Chase, of Cincinnati, who took over the Fillmore holdings.   [see p. 105, 1929 Lake County History]

JOHN HARVEY CLORE, G.A.R., of Umatilla, was born February 28, 1837, Lovington, Illinois, died November 23, 1908, and was buried Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  He married Margaret Ann Creager, July 7, 1860, Moultrie County, Illinois and lived at Lovington.  She was born June 1, 1842, Edwardsport, Indiana, and died October 6, 1924 at Umatilla; was also buried Glendale.  John served as a a Sergeant and Full Private in Company A, 126th Regiment, Illinois Infantry and in the 138 Co 2 Battalion U.S. Veteran Reserve Corps.  Margaret applied for a Federal pension in 1908, Cert #675910. 

THOMAS WILSON CLYBORNE, G.A.R., of Minneola, was born November 3, 1844 in Dowagiac, Cass County, Michigan  and died February 21, 1935 in Bay Pines, Pinellas County, Florida.  He married Mary M. Gibbs before 1880.  She was born about 1850 and died before 1900.  He served as a Private in Company G, 12th Michigan Infantry and applied for a pension in Michigan, November 29, 1881, App # 434250, Cert # 1136667.

MONTGOMERY G. COOPER, G.A.R., of Clermont, was born November 2, 1838 in St. Joseph County, Michigan, died June 24, 1919 at Clermont, and was buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont.  In January 1870 he married Alice May Mathews who was born May 14, 1852, Galva, Illinois and died January 25, 1922, Clermont. Before coming to Florida, in 1870 and 1880 they lived English River, Washington County, Iowa.  Montgomery served as a Corporal, Sergeant and Captain in Company E, 10th Infantry Regiment Iowa.  He received a Federal pension, Cert #142147 and his widow Cert #878659.

JAMES DUMARS, G.A.R., was born March 4, 1823 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and died March 18, 1889.  Buried Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  He was married October 5, 1845, to Miss Hannah Renton, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Service not given

ALEX DUNN, G.A.R., of Tavares, was born March 1848 in Scotland, immigrated in 1885, and died 1902 in Lake County.  WPA reported that he was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  Service not given; probably did not serve.

WILLIAM H. EAVENSON, G.A.R., of Clermont, was born April 1846 in Pennsylvania, died 1915, and was buried Oak Hill Cemetery.  He married Hanna S. (mnu) February 1870.  She was born October 1849 in Pennsylvania and died before 1908.  They came to Florida by 1888, from Franklin, Chester County, Pennsylvania.  William served as a Private in Company H, 43rd Pennsylvania Mil Infantry.  Filed for pension in Florida in January 1915, but died before he could be certified.

HALFTON ADOLPH ECKHOLDT, G.A.R, of Mount Dora, was born October 10, 1844 in Norway, immigrated about 1850 to Minnesota, and died February 19, 1931 at Mount Dora, Lake County, Florida; buried Oakwood Cemetery, Rochester, Olmsted County, Minnesota. Halfton was a lawyer.  He married first, Adaline V. Lane, born December 21, 1848, Farmington, Minnesota and died June 13, 1916 at Mount Dora. They acquired property in Lake County in 1912.   He married second, Emma E. Flint at Tavares, June 20, 1917.  In 1935 she married J. L. O’Hara.  Halfton served as a Sergeant in 3rd Independent Battery, Minnesota Light Artillery.  He applied for a pension October 19, 1907, App #136159, Cert #1141375.

WILLIAM ALFORD EDEBURN, G.A.R., of Sorrento, was born July 1842 in Pennsylvania, died 1910, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married Rachael Lindsay Boisol about 1868 in Pennsylvania.  She was born December 25, 1840 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and died November 19, 1920, Mount Dora; buried Pine Forest.   They lived in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and Iowa (1891) before moving to Florida.  He served as a Private and Corporal in Company H, 10th Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserve Infantry (39th Volunteers) [WPA reported 12th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry].  William received a Federal pension, filed for in Iowa, Cert #767113; widow filed in May 1910 in Florida, Cert #703502.

ELVAN LESLIE EMERSON, G.A.R., of Sorrento, was born June 25, 1843 in Cleveland, Ohio, died May 28, 1920 at Jacksonville, and was buried Sorrento Cemetery.  He was a miller.  About 1867 he married Lucy Jane Allen born October 1838, Aucatto Lake, Michigan and died after 1910. They lived in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio before coming to Florida.  He served as a Private in Company H, 150th Infantry Regiment Ohio, and received a Federal pension, filed for in Ohio, Cert #737909

JOHN EVENDEN, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born October 1840 in England, immigrated in 1841 with his parents, and died 1936.  He is buried  Lockwood Cemetery, Barton, Tioga County, New York, where he lived most of his life.  After his wife, Phoebe Jane died in 1922 he came to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Inez May and Lewis Dick, in Eustis.  John served in Company F, New York 75th Infantry Regiment.  He applied for pension in New York, March 15, 1888, App #644,653, Cert #886,577.

THOMAS H. EVERSON, G.A.R., December 29, 1837 in New Jersey, died March 2, 1887, and buried Ponceannah Cemetery, Paisley.  He married second about 1885 in Florida, Gara “Garrie” M. Allaire, born July 1862 in Minnesota and died after 1910.  Thomas served as a Private in Company CA, 47th Regiment, Ohio Infantry or in Company K, U.S.C. Inf.  Garrie applied for a Federal pension in Florida, 5 Apr 1888, Cert #256145, and lived Steven Point Ward 1, Portage, Wisconsin in 1900 & 1910.  Thomas was a letter carrier, 1870 Census: Cincinnati Ward 6, Hamilton, Ohio, and was in Orange County by 1880.

ALBERT FAHNESTOCK, G.A.R., was born November 12, 1834 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died January 20, 1924 at Eustis, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He was married July 21, 1863, Rock Island County, Illinois to Margaret McCormack who was born July 17, 1846 in New Haven, Connecticut and died July 5, 1929 at Eustis.  They came to Florida after 1920 from Chicago, Illinois.  Albert served as a 1st Lieutenant and Captain in Company C, 103rd Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania

GEORGE W. FARNHAM, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born about 1831 in New Hampshire, died September 29, 1896, and buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married Eliza A. (mnu); she was born November 1835 in Connecticut and died after 1900. They came to Florida from Jersey City, Hudson, New Jersey.  George enlisted at Meriden, Connecticut as a Musician and First Lieutenant in Company K, 8th Infantry Regiment Connecticut.  George received a Federal pension, applied for in Florida in 1890, Cert #673525, widow’s pension applied for in October 1896, Cert #438132.

ALFRED FARRAR, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born November 12, 1843, Haddess Field, England, immigrated in 1849, died December 3, 1907 at Mount Dora, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married Emma F. Sawtill, June 7, 1869, Macon County, Missouri.  She was born September 7, 1852 in Virginia and died December 30, 1915, also buried Pine Forest.  They came to Florida after 1900 from Saint Louis, Missouri.  Alfred served as a Private in Company Battery B, 2nd Light Artillery Regiment Illinois.

HIRAM THOMAS FISHER, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born August 29, 1839, Wooster, Ohio, died June 20, 1932 at Eustis, and was buried at Wooster Cemetery, Wayne County, Ohio, with his first wife Amanda B. Allen.  Amanda was born September 26, 1855 and died September 29, 1913 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.  Hiram married second, Ella M. born about 1878 in Wisconsin.  He served as a Corporal and Sargeant in Company I, 16th Regiment, Ohio Infantry, and Company F, 53rd Infantry Regiment, U.S. Colored Troops where he was promoted to Full .   He applied for a pension in Ohio, June 6, 1907, App #1,364,292, Cert #1,140,909.

JOHN W. FISHER, G.A.R., was born about 1819 in Massachusetts, died April 8, 1900, and was buried Yahala Cemetery (government marker).  He married Lucy L. Adams, 14 Nov 1843, Ashburnham, Worchester County, Massachusetts.  She was born about 1824 in New Hampshire.  John served as a Private in Company F, 2nd Regiment, Massachusetts Heavy Artillery from Worcester, Massachusetts.

ABNER FLINT, G.A.R., was born August 29, 1840 in Amity, Allegheny County, New York, died April 11, 1928, Minneola, Lake County, FL and buried Minneola Cemetery.  He married first, Mary Sophronia  Gregory in New York after returning from the war.  He married second, Mary Jane Currin (born  1884) in 1876 in Madison South Dakota and she passed away 6 Sept 1877 in Kingsbury County, South Dakota where she is buried. He served as postmaster for Spring Lake, Kindsbury, South Dakota for over ten years. He married a third, Apr 1, 1890 Wells, Fairbault County, Minnesota,  to Josephine Cornelia Parke, born October 29, 1851, Grafton, Windham County, Vermont, died April 6, 1937, Minneola; buried Minneola Cemetery.  He was on the 1890 Veterans schedule in Spring Lake, Kingsbury County, South Dakota.  Abner enlisted from Phillipstown, New York as a Private in Company K, 85th Infantry Regiment New York. ***corrections provided by Aleta Boehm.  Note: There are several Abner Flints, and of course, they are all related.  ( The other Abner Flint who married Lucy was Abner Elijah Flint.  His father was Micahel/Micah Campbell Flint, who was the son of Abner Flint and Anna West.  The elder Abner Flint was my Abner Flint's uncle.)  There are two documents out there, each saying different things as to where Abner enlisted from (one says Phillipsville, NY and the other says Ward, Allegany Co., New York. Both have been added here. From all the research I've done, 1842 looks like the year our Abner was born, howeer, on his military records, it is 1849.  In 1850 he is 7 yrs old, in 1870, he is 25 years old, and in 1900 his year of birth is 1842.

ANTHONY FRAZIER was born in Liberty County, Georgia and in September 1864 was age 28.  He enlisted at Hilton Head, South Carolina in the 21st US Colored Infantry, Company K.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, 16 Apr 1890; his wife Mary’s pension is dated 12 May 1910.
 
Anthony received a Homestead Patent 20 Nov 1875 for 160 acres, the SW quarter of Section 12 T20-S, R26-E, signed by Ulysses S. Grant, President.  The land was on the south side of Lake Beauclair, about ½ mile west of present Orange County line.

DANIEL W. FREESE, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born March 1840 in New York, died May 28, 1919, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married Esther Austin about 1875 in New York.  She was born August 1833 in New York and died September 15, 1903; also buried Pine Forest.  Daniel served as a Corporal in Company H, 144th Infantry Regiment New York, enlisting at Stamford, New York.  He filed for a Federal pension in 1890 in Florida, Cert #937696.

HENRY CLOUGH “Harry” FULLER, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born February 1844 in Brooklyn, New York, died March 17, 1921 at Mount Dora, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married Kate Ellison “Katt” Bleeker about 1865 in New York.  She was born May 13, 1848 in New York City, New York and died June 7, 1920, buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  One of the founders of the Mount Dora Yacht Club, Mount Dora, Florida, he served as its first commodore from 1913 until 1921.  Henry served as Lieutenant Colonel, in 75th Regiment, United States Colored Infantry.

fJONAS MOORE FULLER, G.A.R., of Fort Mason, was born 31 May 1844 in Marietta, Ohio and died about 1904, maybe buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis. He married Frances I. “Fannie” Morse, August 23, 1877.  She was born March 4, 1848 in Marietta, Ohio and died April 6, 1939 in Eustis, Lake County.  An early settler, Jonas was in business at Fort Mason with Arthur G. Smith, who eventually bought him out.  [see p. 291, 1929 Lake County History] Jonas served as a Private in Company B, 85th Regiment, Ohio Infantry.  He applied for a Federal pension in 1896 in Florida, Cert #967641; his widow applied April 4, 1904, Cert #577679.

FREDERICK GABLEMAN, G.A.R., was born 1819 in Saxony and died 1884; buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  Friederich Gabelmann, residence Farmington, Van Buren County, Iowa, served as a Private in Company A, 45th Infantry Regiment Iowa.

JOHN N. GAMBLE, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born March 1833 in Pennsylvania and died 1914; buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married Margaret J. Boyd about 1866.  She was born February 7, 1841 in Butler, Beaver County, Pennsylvania and died August 1, 1921, Eustis.  John served as a Private in Company I, 63rd Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida Cert #62067; his widow applied in 1914, Cert #777321 .

MARTIN L. GILLETT, G.A.R., of Sorrento, was born November 1829 in New York, died 1908, and was buried Sorrento Cemetery.  He married about 1867, Clarissa Jagger who was born July 8, 1845 in New York and died February 10, 1931, Mount Dora, Lake County; buried Sorrento.  They were in Orange County, Florida by 1880.  Martin served from Callicoon Depot, Sullivan County, New York as a Private in Company L, “Sharp Shooters”, 56th Infantry Regiment New York.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, Cert #654529; his widow applied November 1908, Cert #681595.

ROBERT JERVIS GORBET, G.A.R., of Altoona, was born September 13, 1846, Jennings County, Indiana, died December 23, 1932, Altoona, and buried Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  He married first, December 12, 1868, Jennings County, Indiana, Mary Louise Powell, born about 1847 in Indiana; second, about 1894, Viola May (mnu), born February 23, 1865, died January 15, 1947 and buried Glendale.  They came to Altoona from Cumberland County, Tennessee.  Robert served as a Private and Corporal in Company I, 13th Regiment, Indiana Infantry.

CHARLES P. GRAY, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born July 1830 in New York, died after 1900 and before May 1907, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married about 1858, Sarah A. (mnu), born about 1838 and died before 1870.  Charles enlisted at Geneva, New York, and served as a Private and Corporal in Company E, 126th Infantry Regiment New York.  He received a Federal pension Cert #857030, having applied in Florida in 1888.

WILLIAM F. GREEN, G.A.R., of Clermont, was born 1844 in New York, died before 1920, buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont.  Reported “single” in 1910 census.  He served as a Private in Company H, 53rd Regiment, New York Infantry (1st), Company K,  71st Regiment, New York Infantry National Guard (30 days, 1863) and Company C,  84th Regiment, New York Infantry National Guard (100 days, 1864).  He applied for a Federal pension in New York, May 1896, Cert #1034459.

THADDEUS W. HACKETT, G.A.R., was born 1843 in Ripley Township, Ohio and died 1932 in Lake County.  He first acquired property in Lake County in 1903, when he was of Huron County, Ohio.  He married first, Lavina L. Thomas, September 3, 1865, North Fairfield, Huron County, Ohio.  She was born June 1847 in New York State and died 1919 in Lake County.  They are buried Hoyt Cemetery, North Fairfield, Huron County, Ohio.  He married second, Dora Cherry Lee Stringham, born September 23, 1854, Fitchfield, Ohio, and died March 26, 1931, Mt. Dora, Florida.  Thaddeus served as a Private in Company D, 101st Regiment, Ohio Infantry.  He did not apply for a pension.

ASA SLEATH HARDMAN, G.A.R., of Leesburg, was born June 23, 1839, Freeport, Shelby County, Indiana, died February 19, 1920, and was buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg, with his second and third wives.  He married first Louisa Maria Sheads of Gettysburg, February 28, 1866, Washington, DC; she died April 1, 1866 in Washington, DC.  Asa married second Mary Elizabeth Hopewell Watts, June 7, 1867, Baltimore, Maryland; she was born 1843 and died September 9, 1883, Lady Lake.  He married third Samantha Jane Horn Ryan, a widow, June 13, 1892 in Clopton, Dale County, Alabama; she was born September 1838 and died December 19, 1923.  Asa was a postal clerk in Indianapolis, and manufacturer (moss) and farm superintendent in Leesburg.  He homesteaded the SE quarter of Section 30, T18-S, R24-E, 160 acres for which he received a patent dated August 20, 1885.  He fought for 3 days during the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 2, 3, 1863.  Asa served as a Corporal in Company F, 3rd Cavalry Regiment Indiana.  He received a Federal pension, applied for in Florida, February 1871, Cert #115923; widow Cert #900369.

JACOB HIATT HARNER, G.A.R., of Leesburg, was born October 30, 1843, Rockingham County, Virginia, died December 1, 1926, and was buried Shiloh Cemetery, Fruitland Park.  He married Elizabeth C. “Eliza” Miller, December 30, 1869 in Fayette County, Illinois, where they lived until they came to Florida after 1880.  Eliza was born November 26, 1851 and died December 9, 1940, also buried Shiloh.  Jacob served as a Private and First Sergeant in Company E, 32nd Infantry Regiment Illinois.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, September 1890, Cert #660545; widow Cert #25-3-27?

ALEXANDER C. HART, of Eustis, G.A.R., was born April 18, 1842 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died May 23, 1925, Eustis, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married about 1862, Samantha A. Craig born September 1845 in Pennsylvania and died after Alexander. Alexander enlisted as a Private at New York City, New York on November 26, 1863 in Company I, 127th Regiment, New York Infantry.  He deserted to the enemy at Cole’s Island, SC, January 29, 1864.

THOMAS HASTIE, G.A.R., was born March 1828 in Scotland, was alive in 1900, Rochester Ward 5, Strafford, New Hampshire.  He married Mary A. (mnu), possibly in Canada about 1856.  Mary was born January 1833 in Scotland.  He was on the 1890 Veterans schedule in Togus, Kennebec, Maine.  Thomas served as a Private in Company H, 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment Massachusetts.  He applied for a Federal pension in New Hampshire in 1892, Cert #360953; widow applied in 1902, Cert #588098. THOMAS C. HATTON, G.A.R., of Minneola, was born September 1846, Clayton, Adams County, Illinois, died after 1910, and was buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont.  He married about 1870, Joan Stevens who was born November 1845 in Chili, Illinois and died in Minneola, Lake County August 9, 1917; buried Clermont.  Thomas served as a Private in Companies C and G, 3rd Cavalry Regiment Illinois.  He received a Federal pension applied for in Kansas, 23 May 1891, Cert #1048640.

ADAM HAZELWOOD, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born August 26, 1840 in Baden, England, immigrated with parents in 1847 to Concord, Jefferson County, Wisconsin, naturalized in 1861, and died January 22, 22 Jan 1937 in Umatilla, Lake, Florida.  He married first about 1867, Sarah S. Jones, born June 1843 in Wales and died 1905; buried La Belle Cemetery, Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, Wisconsin.  He married second before 1918, Augusta Isabella (mnu), born about 1865 in Illinois and died August 1958 in Lake County.  Adam first acquired property in Lake County in January 1917.  Adam, of Concord, Jefferson County, Wisconsin in 1862, served as a Corporal in Company G, 20th Infantry

JOSEPH DEVERNON V. HAZZARD, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born March 1, 1845 in Pennsylvania, died November 9, 1917, Eustis; was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married Leona S. Lane, June 16, 1880, Blissfield, Lenawee, Michigan.  Leona was born March 1856 in Indiana and died 1947 in Lake County.  Joseph served as a Lieutenant and Captain in Company D, 79th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania.  He received a Federal pension, applied for October 1865, Cert #66900; his widow applied in November 1917, Cert #861527. 
 
GEORGE MIFFLIN DALLAS HEARD, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born July 21, 1844, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, died February 2, 1924 at Eustis, was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married about 1875, Lillie Tutt who was born about 1857 in Tennessee; they were divorced.  George served as a Private in Company E, 84th Infantry Regiment Ohio.  He applied for a Federal pension in Ohio, 1907, Cert #1133151.

LUTHER NORMAN HERRICK, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born April 24, 1839 in New York, died October 3, 1910, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  Luther married first, Ellen (mnu), before 1870 in New York.  She was born about 1839 and died before 1880.  Before coming to Florida, they lived Barre, Orleans County, New York.  He married second, about 1882 in Orange County, to Grace Marion Reeve, born January 20, 1861, New York, New York and died February 8, 1934 at Eustis.  Luther enlisted at Warsaw, Wyoming County, New York, and served as Corporal, 2nd & 1st Lieutenant in Company A, 9th Cavalry Regiment New York.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, 1891, no cert.

He married October 2, 1859, Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland County, Maine, Rebecca K. P. Loveitt who was born December 23, 1837, Cape Elizabeth.  They arrived in Pendryville (Eustis) before March 1888.  Rebecca died Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland Co, Maine, April 17, 1912.

EDWARD E. HIGLEY, G.A.R., September 5, 1853-April 10, 1895, buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis, service not given and not identified, but he was too young to serve.  He married Georgie E. Brogden, December 29, 1885, Cook County, Illinois.  The town of Higley was founded by George W. Webb & E. E. Higley about 1883, Webb coming from Iowa and Higley from Chicago.  [see p. 61, 1929 Lake County History]  [E. E. Higley was born Cedar Rapids, Linn, Iowa]

GEORGE ALBERT HINMAN, G.A.R., was born October 12, 1842, Wakeman, Huron, Ohio, died 1883, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis, next to George H. Hinman, from Connecticut, who died in 1882, age 71.  In 1880, G. A. was a telegraph operator, married to Mary, age 26.  He served as a Private in Company B, 101st Infantry Regiment Ohio, was wounded in October 1863 at Louisville, Kentucky.

MARTIN VAN BUREN HOPKINS, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born July 27, 1839, Mentor, Lake County, Ohio, died June 15, 1924 at Eustis, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married September 10, 1867, Lake County, Ohio, Abigail L. “Abbie” Wright born December 27, 1842, Painsville, Ohio and died June 15, 1933 at Eustis; also buried Greenwood.  Martin served as a Private, Corporal and 1st Sergeant in Company C, 88th Infantry Regiment Ohio.  He received a Federal pension, App #286064, Cert #321773; 30 Aug 1914, App #1223112, Cert #954224.

ALBERT CHARLES HOUGHTON, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born December 1841, Wellington, Lorain County, Ohio.  He married first, Anna A. Twitchell, born December 1846 and died by 1910.  He married second, November 30, 1910, Myra H. Twitchell, born July 1844 in Ohio. They were sisters.  They were in Mount Dora by 1930, but had no property on record.  Albert was commissioned in Company A, 2nd Cavalry Regiment Ohio, and rose to Full Captain.
 
HOLLISTER JOSIAH HOUSE, G.A.R., of Clermont, was born September 1841 in Forrestville, Chautauqua, New York and died September 26, 1931 in Miller, Lawrence, Missouri.  He married Sarah Amelia Higgins October 2, 1862 in New York State.  Sarah was born June 8, 1841 and died December 13, 1925 in Miller, Lawrence, Missouri.  Hollister served as a Private and Corporal in Company A, 176th Regiment, New York Infantry.  He enlisted at Brookfield, Madison County, New York.   No pension.

DR. JOSEPH C. HUGHES, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born March 4, 1849 in Mount Vernon, Ohio, died September 23, 1928 at Eustis, and reported buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  The family moved to Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa when he was a small child.  He married about 1880 to Lillie W. (mnu), born January 1863 in Kentucky and died after Joseph.  Service not given or identified.

JAMES ALLISON HUTCHINSON, G.A.R., was born April 18, 1843 in Ohio, died July 23, 1929 in Tampa, Hillsborough County, and reportedly buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married about 1865 in Ohio to Mary Ellen Wiley, born June 24, 1845 in Ohio and died August 16, 1893; buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis. NATHANIEL POOLE JACOBS, G.A.R., of Minneola, was born April 4, 1842 in Michigan, died June 10, 1916, and was buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont.  He married first, about 1866, Rose H. Ellis, born about 1849 in Indiana, married second, November 1, 1890 at Ann Arbor Twp, Washtenaw, Michigan, to Genevieve Stomes born November 1859 in Michigan.  Nathaniel enlisted at Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan and served as a Private in Company D, 2nd Infantry Regiment Michigan.

WILLIAM WALLACE JAMES, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born September 1833, died January 1913, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married October 5, 1857, Portage County, Ohio, Elizabeth Cynthia Brown, born October 24, 1838 in Mayville, Chautauqua County, New York and died May 15, 1927 at Eustis; also buried Greenwood.  William served as a Private, Sergeant, 2nd & 1st Lieutenant in 9th Light Artillery Regiment Ohio.  He received a Federal pension, applied for in Ohio in 1890 Cert #721742; his widow applied in Florida 16 Jan 1913, Cert #764125.

Kipp, January 15, 1894, Lake County.  She was born September 14, 1847, New York, and died April 20, 1935 at Eustis; also buried Greenwood.  Andrew served as a Private in Company A & G, 27th Infantry Regiment New York, and in Company E, 188th Infantry Regiment New York.  He received a Federal pension in 1876, Cert #317701; his widow applied Sep 1916, Cert #824209.

AMOS AUGUSTUS KAUNE, G.A.R., of Umatilla, was born March 10, 1840 in New York City, died October 17, 1937 in Umatilla, and was buried Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  About 1867 he married Harriet E. Parker who was born February 5, 1850 in Chemung, New York and died June 29, 1932 in Lake County and buried Glendale.  He was on the 1890 Veterans schedule in Montgomery, Orange County, New York.  They came to Florida from Montgomery to New Prospect, Lee County, Florida by 1900, later moving to Lake County. Amos served as a Landsman in the U.S. Navy for 3 years, aboard USS Wabash, etal.

JACOB W. KEFFER, G.A.R., of Astatula, was born 1843, died April 30, 1896, and was buried Astatula Cemetery.  From North Prairie, Illinois, he served as a Private and Full Sergeant in Company F, 55th Infantry Regiment Illinois.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, October 19, 1882, app #462783, cert #247015. No further information found.

ORLANDO KENNEDY, G.A.R., of Sorrento, was born June 6, 1842 in Pennsylvania, died May 11, 1905 in Sorrento, Lake County, and was buried Sorrento Cemetery.  He married first before 1870 to Agnes J. “Aggie” Bear, born about 1842 in Pennsylvania.  He married second, January 16, 1882, Orange County, Florida, Frances Emeline Montange, born May 6, 1841 in Connecticut and died April 26, 1918, Mount Dora, Lake County.  Orlando served as a Private and Sergeant in Company A, 8th Cavalry Regiment Pennsylvania (89th Volunteers).  He applied in Florida, September 1897, for a Federal pension, Cert #955433; his widow applied July 1905, Cert #608379

ALEXANDER KERN, G.A.R., of Clermont, was born 1836 in Pennsylvania, died 1907, and buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont.  He married Eleonora (mnu) about 1870, probably New Jersey.  She was born 1856 in New Jersey and died 1942; buried Oak Hill.  The Kerns were brought to Florida from Buena Vista, Atlantic County, New Jersey, by Clermont Improvement Company of New Jersey.  Alexander Kern owned and operated the store started by M. E. Wilson at the corner of Montrose and Eighth Streets.  He had previously acquired Clermont’s first drug store, and after taking over the Wilson General Store, consolidated these in the Wilson Building.  Alexander Kern and A. B. McNiece operated a stage and freight line from Clermont to Yalaha, which consisted of mule-drawn wagons.  [see pp. 99, 100, 134, 1929 Lake County History]  Alexander served as a Private in Company A, 71st Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry.  He applied for a Federal pension December 1874, Cert #590199; his widow applied in Florida, November 1907, Cert #659836.

THOMAS CORWIN KEYS, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born September 5, 1846, Shreve, Wayne County, Ohio, died 1929, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married July 11, 1876, Marietta, Washington County, Ohio, to Florence A. Morse, born April 30, 1853, Marietta, Ohio and died September 20, 1931 at Eustis.  They came to Florida in 1883.  She is also buried Greenwood. [see bio, p. 253, 1929 Lake County History].  Thomas served as a Private in Company G, 166th Infantry Regiment Ohio. He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, January 6, 1891, App #980351, Cert #869907; his widow applied in Florida, App #1659248, Cert #A-5=24-30.

EDWARD C. KNEPLEY, G.A.R., was born about 1834 in Pennsylvania and died about 1898, presumed buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He married Sarah (mnu), 1859-1860 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  She was born 1835, died December 24, 1913, and was buried Lone Oak.  They came to Florida from Earlington, Hopkins County, Kentucky before 1885.  He was a railroad engineer.  Edward served as a Private in Company E, 1st Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania.  His widow applied for a Federal pension January 12, 1898, Application #665886, Cert #482873.  At Lone Oak there is a vault formerly attributed to the name Knepley.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN LAKE, G.A.R., of Sorrento, was born May 11, 1836, Pruntytown, Taylor County, West Virginia, and died January 30, 1918, Sorrento, Lake County.  He married February 4, 1897, Kerens, Randolph, West Virginia, Maggie Martha Stone, born January 28, 1848 and died December 18, 1923, Cassia.  They moved to Sorrento by 1910, and are buried Seminole Cemetery, Sorrento. He served as Private and Comm Sgt, Company A, 10th Regiment, West Virginia Infantry.  He received a Federal pension, applied for 1889 in Nebraska, Cert #691438; his widow applied 26 Feb 1918, Cert #852839.

FRANK W/M. LEE, G.A.R., of Tavares, was born February 1839 in Massachusetts and died in Lake County, December 21, 1910.  He was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis, with a military marker.  He married first in Holyoke, Hampden Co, Massachusetts, March 9, 1864, Sarah C. Gates, born Jun 1839 in Vermont.  He married second about 1908, Annie D. (mnu), born about 1844 in Maryland.  Frank served as a Private in Company C, 10th Regiment, Massachusetts Infantry.  He received a Federal pension, applied for 16 Mar 1883, App #13784, Cert #15778; his widow applied in Maryland on 22 May 1914, App #1028201, no Cert.

SAMUEL E. LESTER, G.A.R., of Umatilla, was born August 5, 1848 in Pennsylvania, died August 13, 1933, Boyle County, Kentucky, and was buried Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  He married Ida May White who was born August 23, 1853 in Wayne County, Pennsylvania and died June 10, 1937 in Umatilla, Lake County; also buried Glendale.  Before coming to Florida, they lived Danville, Boyle County, Kentucky; he was a railroad engineer.  Samuel served as a Private in Company D, 3rd Regiment, New York Infantry.  He received a Federal pension, applied for in Pennsylvania, 26 Mar 1890, App #868988, Cert #784544; his widow applied in Florida on 18 Aug 1933, App #1735027, Cert #A-1-6-34.

THOMAS LEWIS, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born October 1837 in New Jersey, died 1915, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married about 1866 to Mary J. McNamee born March 19, 1843 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and died November 7, 1923 at Eustis. They lived in Washington, DC where he was a clerk for the War Department before coming to Eustis.  Thomas, of St. Clair County, Michigan, served as a Sergeant in Company E, 5th Infantry Regiment Michigan and was discharged for wounds.  He received a Federal pension in May 1864, Cert #32270; his widow applied in Florida, 18 Jun 1915, Cert #799296.

THOMAS NEWTON LEWIS, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born August 1840 in Ohio, died January 1910, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married about 1867, Catherine Ann “Kate” Thrap, born May 11, 1846 in Ohio and died December 26, 1933, Mount Dora, Lake County.  Dr. Lewis served as Assistant Surgeon, Companies F & S, 98th Infantry Regiment Ohio.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, September 1888, Cert #529520; his widow applied January 1910, Cert #697866.  

CORNELIUS H. LONGSTREET, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born October 11, 1831, Baldwinsville, New York, died March 26, 1901, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married May 31, 1854, Onondaga County, New York, Esther Jane Satterby who was born December 29, 1831 in Jamesville, New York and died January 27, 1919 in Gibbons, Nebraska; buried Pine Forest.  C.H. and his family became permanent residents of Mount Dora in 1888. He was in the citrus and beekeeping businesses.  Cornelius served as Acting Assistant Paymaster, Braziliers, U.S. Navy.

DANIEL W. LOWELL, G.A.R., was born February 3, 1837 in Penobscot County, Maine, September 26, 1904, and was buried Astatula Cemetery.  Before 1870 he married Sylvia T. (mnu), born about 1847 in Maine and died before 1880.  He was a merchant in Sumter County, and homesteaded 40 acres in Section 32, T20S R26E, patented June 20, 1883.  Of Plymouth, Maine, he served as a Private in Company D, 1st Cavalry Regiment District of Columbia; transferred into Company F, 1st Cavalry Regiment Maine.  He applied for a pension July 19, 1885, App #78547, Cert #661852.

ALLEN B. LUDINGTON, G.A.R., was born between 1848 and 1851 in Ohio or Illinois, died 1886, and was buried Empire Church Cemetery, Groveland.  He married before 1878 to Frances (mnu) born about 1858 in Connecticut and died before 1885. He received a patent for Sec 10, T23S, R25E in Lake County.  Allen, of Durham, Hancock County, Illinois served as a Private in Company H, 78th Infantry Regiment Illinois.

SAMUEL J. MCCULLOCH, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born 1841 in Pennsylvania, died 1911, and buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married first January 1870, Champaign County, Ohio, to Sarah Elizabeth Arrowsmith who was born December 7, 1842 in Ohio and died February 22, 1906 in Eustis, Lake County, and buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married second about 1908 to Marguerite V. (mnu) born 26 Oct 1878, Birmingham, England and died 15 Nov 1932, Manatee County, Florida.  Samuel served as a Sergeant Major and 2nd Lieutenant in Company H, 3rd Cavalry Regiment Pennsylvania.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, February 1888. Cert #449919; his widow applied as Margaret V. Taylor, September 1930, no cert.

EBENEZER MCDONALD, G.A.R., of Mascotte, was born February 2, 1829, Springfield, Clark County, Ohio, died May 14, 1903, and was buried Empire Church Cemetery, Groveland.  He married about 1853 to Sarah Jane Wheeler who was born July 18, 1834 in Vermont, died February 1916, and buried Empire.  Ebenezer served as a Private in Company G, 87th Infantry Regiment Indiana.  He applied for a Federal pension March 1880, Cert #227178;his widow applied May 1903, Cert #558198.

CHARLES B. McLEAN, G.A.R., of Lady Lake, was born April 1840 in Canada and died 1901. He immigrated from Canada in 1869, was in Ashland County, Wisconsin in 1880.  Charles married about 1872, Anna R. “Annie” (mnu) who was born January 1854 in England or Ireland and died 1906.  They were buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He was a farmer.  Charles served as a Private in Company A, 8th Cavalry Regiment New York.  His widow applied for a Federal pension in Florida, January 31, 1902, but where was no Cert #.  She may have been denied because Charles did not enlist in Buffalo, New York until April 1865.

JOHN A. MALUM, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born February 28, 1830 in Norway, died December 9, 1905, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married first, about 1866, Mary E. (mnu) born about 1840 in Pennsylvania and died before 1880.  He married second, about 1871, Martha J. (mnu) McComb, born June 1829 in Virginia.  Resident of Cylon, St. Croix County, Wisconsin, John served as Private in Company I, 51st Infantry Regiment Wisconsin, a month before the war ended.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, January 1900, no cert.

SAMUEL HALL MARRYOTT, G.A.R., was born June 12, 1841 in Cumberland County, New Jersey, died February 12, 1902, and was buried Sorrento Cemetery.  He married about 1864, Harriet A. Gifford born September 1845 in New Jersey and died after March 1902. He was on the 1890 Veterans schedule in Deerfield, Cumberland County, New Jersey.  Samuel served as a Private and 2nd Lieutenant in Company D, 10th Regiment, New Jersey Infantry.  He applied for a Federal pension June 1877, Cert #163957; his widow applied in New Jersey, March 1902, Cert #553187.

JOHN MILLER, G.A.R., of Leesburg, was born September 6, 1839 in Bavaria, died July 30, 1900, and was buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He married first, Mary Carthan, November 11, 1864, Victoria, Texas.  Mary was born about 1843 in Arkansas.  He married second, Margaret born about 1853 in Mississippi.  He married third, October 26, 1883, Sumter County, Isabella Kimbley born 1849 in England and died July 9, 1925; also buried Lone Oak.  He was a baker with a shop on Main Street, Leesburg and received a patent for 160 acres dated October 22, 1885 in Section 11, T19-S, R25-E.  John served as a Private in Company L, 1st Regiment, US Artillery (Regular Army) and in Company F, 6th Regiment, New York Infantry.  He applied for Federal pension June 1882 in Florida, Cert #568023; his widow applied October 1900, Cert #542465.

SAMPSON L. MILLER, G.A.R., was born July 4, 1837, died February 15, 1918, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Groveland.  He married first, Lydia M. Bemiss, October 7, 1864, Parke County, Indiana; second, Mary J. Campbell, February 24, 1870, Edgar County, Illinois.  Mary J. was born May 1853 in Illinois.  Sampson had no children.  Resident of Bridgeton, Parke County, Indiana, he served as a Private in Company C, 140th Infantry Regiment Indiana.  He applied for a Federal pension in Indiana, July 1889, Cert #528602.

WILLIAM H. MILLER, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born February 1841 in Pennsylvania, died November 18, 1913, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married second, April 28, 1889, Lake County, Mrs. Nellie Jackson Azincourt.  Nellie was born February 1846 in Iowa and died June 8, 1913; also buried Greenwood.  Service not given or identified.

JOHN NATHANIEL MOORE, G.A.R., was born May 23, 1837 in Tennessee, and died March 20, 1897.  He married March 16, 1861, Marshall County, Mississippi, Minerva Amanda Dean born December 9, 1841 in Tennessee and died December 15, 1895.  They are buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He was a farmer and homesteaded 160 acres in Sec. 20, T19-S, R24-E, Lake County, his patent dated June 24, 1878.  John served as a Corporal in Company A, 12th Cavalry Regiment Tennessee.

ISAAC MUNROE, G.A.R., of Seneca, was born January 29, 1822 in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, died January 23, 1880, and was buried Seneca Cemetery.  He married November 18, 1847, Andover, Massachusetts,  Mary Whitmarch Noble, born March 5, 1820 in Oxford County, Maine, died April 9, 1907, and buried Seneca.  Isaac served as a Private in Company G, 58th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts and in Company D, 24th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps.  He received a Federal pension beginning Aug 1865, Cert #74573; his widow applied January 5, 1881, Cert #195442.

AMBROSE W. MURPHY, G.A.R., of Acron, was born December 1840 in Ohio, died 1905, and was buried Ponceannah Cemetery, Paisley.  He married April 27, 1871, Highland County, Ohio, Caroline Brewer, born about 1854 in Ohio and died after 1910 in Florida.  Ambrose served as a Private in Company K, 12th Infantry Regiment Ohio, and Sergeant in Company C, 23rd Infantry Regiment Ohio.  He applied for Federal pension August 19, 1890 in Florida, Cert #586202; His widow applied September 19, 1906, Cert #644835.

DAVID NEWBERRY, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born May 10, 1830 in Brownhelm, Ohio, died October 24, 1909 at Mount Dora, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married about 1866 to Amelia Sarah Bassett, born February 1846 in Ohio and died January 3, 1918, Mount Dora; also buried Pine Forest.  David served as a Sergeant in Company K, 23rd Infantry Regiment Ohio.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, August 1890, Cert #967819; his widow applied October 1909, Cert #692616.

ALVIN E. “Alvie” NISHWITZ, G.A.R., was born March 21, 1841 in West Milton, Ohio and died July 29, 1919, Leesburg.  He married March 10, 1864, Miami County, Ohio to Belle Collins who was born November 11, 1844 in West Charleston, Ohio and died January 18, 1920, Leesburg.  They are buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  Alvin served as a Private, Corporal and Sergeant  in Company C, 71st Infantry Regiment Ohio.  He applied in Ohio, August 1891, for a Federal pension, Cert #792179; his widow, applied August 1919, Cert #882175.

SAMUEL OMWEG, G.A.R., of Yalaha, was born about 1833 in Germany and died about 1897 in Lake County, Florida, and buried in Yalaha Cemetery.  He was married to Anna Elizabeth B. Stitlitz who was born October 15, 1834 in Untersustbok Bavaria and died November 19, 1923 at Leesburg and was buried Lone Oak Cemetery.  They immigrated in 1854.  He received a patent, October 1883, for land in S½, SE, Section 20, T20S, R25E.  Samuel served as Private in Company C, Ohio 41st Infantry Regiment and 43rd Company, 2nd Battn Regiment, U.S. Veteran Reserve Corps .  He applied for a pension in Florida, July 26, 1893, App #176725, Cert # 121673; his widow applied April 14, 1897, App #353470, no Cert.

JOHN THOMAS OWEN, G.A.R., of Lady Lake, was born November 1, 1839 in Greene County, Indiana, died February 2, 1913, Lady Lake, and was buried Lady Lake Cemetery.  He married January 1, 1861, Greene County, Indiana, to Mary Anne Neidigh, born March 27, 1842 in Ohio, died August 27, 1936, Lady Lake; buried Lady Lake.  He served as a First Lieutenant in Company H, 6th Regiment, Indiana Cavalry and Company H, 71st Regiment, Indiana Infantry.  He applied for a Federal pension, April 1865, Cert #48902; his widow applied in Florida, March 1914, Cert #760518.

DANIEL PALMER, G.A.R., of Umatilla, was born November 5, 1834, Burlington, Ontario Prov., Canada, died November 5, 1916, and was buried Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  He married first, 1856, Gore District, Ontario, Canada, Mary Smith, born about 1840, Ontario, Canada, and died May 29, 1888, Lake County.  He married second, March 14, 1889, Lake County, Mary Jane Dykes, born August 25, 1869, Eustis, and died May 6, 1925, Altoona;  buried Glendale.  He served as a Private in Company E, 88th Infantry Regiment Illinois and was discharged for wounds.  He received a Federal pension, application in September 1865, Cert #53797; his widow applied December 1916, Cert #830811.

ORSON N. PERKINS, G.A.R., of Acron, was born January 1828, died 1906, and was buried Ponceannah Cemetery, Paisley.  He married October 7, 1849, Meriden, Connecticut, Lucretia C. Scott of Prattsville, New York.  She was born March 1832 and died before Orson.  He served as 1st Lieutenant in Company E, 4th Cavalry Regiment Iowa.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, August 25, 1890, Cert #893877.

JOHN MARSHALL PITZER, G.A.R., of Altoona, was born June 6, 1843 in Iowa, died August 19, 1934, Altoona, and buried Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  About 1867 he married Julia S. White, born about 1843 in Michigan and died after 1885 in Orange/Lake County.  Son Roy born Winterset, Iowa.  John served as Private in Company D, 1st Cavalry Regiment Iowa.

LEROY POPE, G.A.R., was born March 26, 1828 in Highland County, Ohio, died April 8, 1894, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He did not marry. He was a lawyer. Leroy served as a Private in Company D, 11th Cavalry Regiment Ohio.

JOHN TOM PORTER, G.A.R., of Higley, was born September 1833 in North Carolina, died September 17, 1907 and was buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He married April 5, 1874, Monticello, Jefferson County, Florida, Missouri Lena Leonard Porter born January 12, 1853 in Florida and died September 30, 1933 in Lisbon, Lake County.  John served as a Sergeant in Company K, 2nd Regiment, US Volunteer Infantry.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, June 28, 1904, Cert #1091612; his widow applied October 5, 1907, Cert #404804.

SAMUEL HARRY POWER/POWERS, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born January 1834 in Pennsylvania, died 1911, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married first about 1867 in Pennsylvania, Priscilla (mnu) born about 1843 and died before 1885.  August 18, 1885 in Lucas County, Ohio, he married second, Elizabeth Radbone Elkington, born May 18, 1839 in England and died March 7, 1917, Toledo, Ohio.  Harry served as a Corporal in Company G, 15th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania.

WILLIAM F. RANDALL, G.A.R., of Umatilla, was born February 9, 1845 in Indiana, died August 20, 1921, Umatilla, and was buried Umatilla Cemetery.  He married before 1870 in Minnesota, Emma W. D. (mnu) born June 1853 in Minnesota and died 1947 in Lake County.   He was on the 1890 Veterans schedule in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota.  William served as Private in Company K, 71st Infantry Regiment Indiana and in Company K, 6th Cavalry Regiment Indiana.  He applied for a Federal pension, September 19, 1889, Cert #536957; his widow applied September 22, 1921, in Florida, Cert #913094.

Jones, born May 4, 1836, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, died August 6, 1906 at Eustis, also buried Greenwood.  E. G. served as a Captain in Company E, 129th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania.  He received a Federal pension, Cert #898515. 

MANLUFF W. REYNOLDS, G.A.R., of Sorrento was born July 27, 1836 in New Jersey, died February 28, 1908, and was buried Sorrento Cemetery.  He married November 29, 1878, Randolph County, Indiana, Eliza J. Coats who was born March 1832 in Indiana and died after 1910.  M. W. served as a Private in Company K, 6th Regiment, New Jersey Infantry and in Company G, 11th Infantry Regiment New Jersey.  He received a Federal pension, applied for August 7, 1862, Cert #364230; his widow applied in Florida, April 13, 1908. JAMES RIDDLE, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born April 19, 1842 in Ohio, died March 31, 1923 at Eustis, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married October 22, 1865, Madison County, Ohio, Mary A. Andrews, born January 1844 in Ohio, died 1906, and buried Greenwood.  He married second May 17, 1913, Lake County, Laura McK. Willett, born about 1855 in Georgia.  Service not identified.

TYRAH R. ROBERSON, G.A.R., was born May 20, 1843 in Smithville, Tennessee, died September 27, 1923 in Sorrento, Lake County.  He married about 1884 in Tennessee, Lucy Belle Hampton who was born April 14, 1866 in Pulman County, Tennessee and died December 11, 1918 at Sorrento.  They are buried Seminole Cemetery, Sorrento.  He served as a Private in Company I, 5th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry.   (no pension found)

ORLANDO P. ROOKS, G.A.R., of Leesburg, was born 1836 in Pennsylvania, died 1895, and was buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He married May 5, 1875, Marion County, Indiana, Josephine M. Willard born about 1849 in Marion County, died January 10, 1930 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas and was buried there.  O.P. received two patents totaling 120 acres in Sections 32 & 34, T18-S, R24-E, dated October 20, 1883. Orlando served 3 months in 1861 as a Corporal in 2nd Regiment, Kansas Infantry and as a Private and Full Sergeant in Company H, 185th Infantry Regiment New York.  He received a Federal pension applied for in Florida, September 11, 1891, Cert #904465; his widow applied December 11, 1896, Cert #461460.

DR. ORIN WINSLOW SADLER, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born January 1, 1843 in Syracuse, New York, died January 2, 1929, Tarpon Springs, Pinellas County, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married about 1878, Emma Josephine Slocum, born January 19, 1846 in Linesville, Pennsylvania, died April 18, 1922 at Mount Dora, and buried Pine Forest.  Married second, Adile Sara (mnu) who died 1942, Pinellas County.  He was Mayor of Mount Dora 1917 - 1920.  Civil War service not given or identified.

ROBERT SMITH SARGENT, G.A.R., of Sorrento, was born July 26, 1841 in Astoria, Long Island, New York, died November 29, 1930, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married about 1891, Georgeanne L. “Anna” (mnu) born March 1862 in Massashusetts and died after 1930.  He was on the 1890 Veterans schedule in Ridgefield Park, Bergen County, New Jersey.  Robert “Sergeant” served as a Private in Company B, 17th Infantry Regiment New York and on the U.S.S. Crusader.

WILLIAM H. SCHULTZ, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born November 9, 1830 in Vermont, died September 12, 1917 at Eustis, and reportedly buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He was a shoemaker.  He married before 1860 to Sarah B. (mnu) born June 1828 in Massachusetts and died after 1900.  They came to Florida from Cambridgeport, Middlesex, Massachusetts.  He served in Massachusetts Volunteers, service not identified.

JOHN SEACOLE, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born March 9, 1844 in Montreal, Canada, died April 5, 1928 at Eustis, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married about 1868, Mary L. Schneider born June 18, 1851 in Stamford, Connecticut and died March 12, 1924, Eustis.  He enlisted at Brooklyn, New York and served as a Private and Corporal in Company I, 176th Infantry Regiment New York.  No pension.

WILLIAM STEPHENS SHERMAN, G.A.R., of Cassia, was born December 19, 1841, Plympton, Plymouth, Massachusetts, died August 27, 1917 at Sorrento, and was buried Cassia Cemetery.  He married first, July 1, 1866, Hanson, Plymouth, Massachusetts, Helen Maria Rose, born October 12, 1846, Hanover, Plymouth, Massachusetts, and died there July 29, 1899.  He married second, February 28, 1901, Lake County, Dollie Elsie Walker born about 1882 in Florida and died after William.  William served as a Private in Company D, 38th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts.  He applied for a Federal pension December 4, 1883, in Massachusetts, Cert #614527; his widow applied September 11, 1917, Cert #847031

HINKLEY SHOCKLEY, G.A.R., of Altoona, was born April 9, 1841 in Indiana, died November 21, 1924, and was buried Old Maple Grove Cemetery, in forest north of Altoona.  He married September 13, 1866, Anna E. “Annie” Wood born January 19, 1842 in Indiana and died November 14, 1881 in Orange County.  Hinkley homesteaded 162.08 acres in Section 12, T17-S, R27-E, with patent dated February 10, 1885.  Hinkley served as a Private in Company A, 83rd Infantry Regiment Indiana.  He received a Federal pension applied for January 25, 1865, App #59646, Cert #40732.

CAPTAIN THOMAS H. SIMMONS, G. A. R., of Eustis, was born of Maryland parentage, November 26, 1834, in Jersey County, Illinois.  He was the owner and operator of a large flour mill in Illinois, and from 1882 until his death in 1910 spent all his winters in Eustis.  He married September 20, 1863, Macoupin County, Illinois, Eliza Jane Andrews of Virginia, born June 22, 1840 at Brighton, Illinois and died September 15, 1919 at Eustis. Both are buried Asbury Cemetery, Brighton, Macoupin County, Illinois.  He served throughout the Civil War as Captain of Company F, 14th Illinois Infantry. 

CHARLES SIMPSON, G.A.R., of Seneca, was born November 19, 1847 at New Castle, Lincoln County, Maine, died July 14, 1931 at Eustis; buried Seneca Cemetery.  He was married about 1877 to M. (mnu) born about 1850 in Maine.  They were among the first settlers in Seneca.  He married second August 1, 1891 in Ocala, Lillia Stockwell.  She was born September 1864 in Massachusetts, died December 7, 1917 in Eustis and buried Seneca Cemetery.  Charles Simpson was the first manager of the Seneca Hotel [see p. 62,  1929 Lake County History].  He served as a Private in the 14th Regiment, Maine Infantry.

CHARLES LEROY SIMPSON, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born April 22, 1842, Reading, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, died June 4, 1921 at Mount Dora, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married November 12, 1876 in New Hampshire, Alfida Philbrick born October 8, 1849 in Portsmouth, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, died November 5, 1936 at Mount Dora; buried Pine Forest.  Charles served as a Private in Company B, 1st Battalion Heavy Artillery Regiment Massachusetts.  He received a Federal pension, applied for October 20, 1903 in New Hampshire, Cert #1087166; his widow applied in Florida, June 22, 1921, Cert #918864

ASA ALANSON SMITH, G.A.R., of Leesburg and Lady Lake, was born April 5, 1833, South Hadley, Massachusetts, died January 10, 1924 at Lady Lake, and was buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He married about 1856, Marion Marie Whitehead born April 19, 1835 in Salsbury, Connecticut and died December 7, 1924 at Lady Lake.  Living most of their lives in New Haven County, Connecticut, they came to Leesburg by 1910.  Asa served as a Private and Sergeant in Company D, 52nd Infantry Regiment Massachusetts.  He filed for a Federal pension May 22, 1891 in Connecticut, Cert #942698; his widow filed in Florida February 11, 1924, Cert #948243.

CHARLES T. SMITH, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born June 17, 1843, Rome, New York, died May 13, 1921, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married about 1864 in New York, Elnora Peckham who was born May 16, 1846, New London, New York and died February 24, 1933 at Eustis, buried Greenwood.  They settled in Eustis about 1876, where he had several businesses.  [see pp. 291, 292, 1929 Lake County History]  He served in Company E, 101st Infantry Regiment New York (National Guard).

WILLIAM S. SMITH, G.A.R., of Altoona, was born January 1839, died 1904, and was buried Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  He never married.  Served as a Private in Company I, 109th New York Infantry.  William applied for a Federal pension in Florida, August 24, 1889, Cert #689654.

WILLIAM HENRY SNOW, G.A.R., of Yalaha, was born November 30, 1840, died July 16, 1901, and was buried Yalaha Cemetery.  About 1867 he married Sarah A. Emery born November 1850 in New York, moved to Newton County, Indiana and died 1936??? in Lake County.  William served as a Private and Corporal in Company D, 76th Infantry Regiment New York and in Company K, 147th Infantry Regiment New York.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, July 1, 1892, Cert #864148; his widow applied August 26, 1901, Cert #549200.

GEORGE WASHINGTON STATLER, G.A.R, of Minneola, was born February 14, 1847 at Independence, Ohio and died September 28, 1932 at Minneola, Lake County, Florida; buried Mansfield, Ohio.  He married first about 1875, Jane A. “Jennie” Laird, born March 1852 and died February 3, 1922 in Richland County, Ohio.  He married second, Jennie Ames Yardley (widow of Russell Manly), November 12, 1927 at Clermont.  She was born about 1858 in Ohio.  George served as a Private in Company G, 82nd Infantry Regiment Ohio.  He applied for a pension in Ohio, September 13, 1890, App #905935, Cert #962071.

HIRAM T. STROUT, G.A.R., of Leesburg and Fruitland Park, was born May 2, 1840 in Maine, died October 7, 1924 at Lady Lake, and was buried Shiloh Cemetery, Fruitland Park.  He married before 1870, Mary J. Oliver born about 1844 in Maine and died after 1924.  He was on the 1890 Veterans schedule in Washington, Knox County, Maine.  Hiram served as Private in Company I, 15th Infantry Regiment Maine and as a Lieutenant in Company B, 1st Sharpshooters Regiment Maine.  He applied for a Federal pension in Massachusetts, 1879, Cert #184841; his widow applied November 1, 1924, in Massachusetts, Cert #959899.

WILLIAM T. STROUT, G.A.R., of Umatilla, was born September 28, 1839 in Michigan, died June 5, 1931 at Lake City, Columbia County, and was buried Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  He married about 1889, Martha A. (mnu) Austin, born April 1848 in Tennessee.  They came to Florida from Hamilton County, Kansas.  He married second, Mary A. (mnu) born about 1864 in Florida.  William served as Quartermaster Sergeant and 1st Lieutenant in Company A, 7th Infantry Regiment Michigan.  He applied for a Federal pension in 1890 in Colorado, Cert #779917; his widow applied in Florida February 11, 1931; XC 2647918.

SAMUEL TATLOW, G.A.R., of Bay Ridge, Orange County, was born May 25, 1843 in Circleville, Hocking County, Ohio, died October 15, 1920, Orange County, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married first October 22, 1871, Mitchell County, Kansas, Sarah McIntosh, born about 1850 in Kentucky.  He married second July 15, 1894, Brush Creek, Idaho, Mary Robinson Heator, born July 14, 1871 in St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri, died March 15, 1958, buried Pine Forest.  Samuel served as a Private in Company E, 29th Illinois, C & H, 131st Illinois Infantry and Company E & B, 1st Infantry Regiment Kansas.  He applied for a Federal pension in Idaho, September 16, 1890, App #929932, Cert #629483; his widow applied in Florida, November 15, 1920, App #1165869, Cert #906690.

GEORGE DUDLEY THAYER, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born May 15, 1845 in Boston, Massachusetts, died July 2, 1932, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married first October 28, 1867, Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, Florence Brainard born April 22, 1849, Brookline, Massachusetts and died before 1900.  He married second, May 19, 1903, Lake County, Emma Boone born about 1850 in New York; third about 1914, Dora Berry born about 1877 in New Hampshire and died after April 1945.  George served as a Private in Company I, 4th Heavy Artillery Regiment Massachusetts.  He applied for a Federal pension May 18, 1907, in Florida, Cert #1139000.

RESCUM H. THOMPSON, G.A.R., of Lady Lake, was born March 7, 1835 in New York and died July 22, 1909.  He married March 12, 1868, Jackson County, Missouri, Susan B. Colman who was born April 25, 1848 in Illinois and died December 31, 1931 in Jackson County, Florida. They are buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  They moved to Lady Lake by 1900 from Syracuse, Otoe County, Nebraska, where he was a farmer.  Rescum served as a Private in Company A, 124th Infantry Regiment Illinois.  His widow applied for a Federal pension in Florida, August 1909, Cert #698345.

ROSS CLARKE TREMAIN, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born September 29, 1841 in Republic, Seneca County, Ohio, died March 7, 1912, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married August 14, 1869, Oberlin, Lorain County, Ohio, Georgia Risley, born January 1, 1847 in Oberlin, Ohio, died March 13, 1924, and buried Pine Forest.  They came to Florida from Minnesota in June 1878.  [see bio, p. 296, 1929 Lake County History].  Ross served as a Private in Company A, 55th Infantry Regiment Ohio.

RUSSELL H. TRUE, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born December 9, 1842 in Washington County, Ohio, died March 6, 1904, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married first by 1870, Angie (mnu) who was born about 1851 in Ohio.  He married second, about 1874, Frances Lily (mnu) who was born May 19, 1853 in Ohio, died January 11, 1911 and was buried Pine Forest.  He served as a Private in Company A, 87th Infantry Regiment Ohio, Quartermaster Sergeant and 1st Sergeant in Company C, 4th Cavalry Regiment Ohio, and Quartermaster Sergeant and 1st Lieutenant in Company A, 13th Cavalry Regiment Ohio.  His widow applied for a Federal pension in Florida, May 23, 1904, Cert #607161.

REV. HENRY J. WALKER, G.A.R., was born 1835 in England, died January 23, 1891, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married before 1860, Jemima W. (mnu) who was born about 1837 in England and died after Henry.  They immigrated before 1860.  He served as Musician and Chaplain in Company A, 12th Infantry Regiment Wisconsin.  His widow applied for a Federal pension in Florida, February 1891, Cert #425053.

JACKSON WALLACE, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born July 1822 in Pennsylvania, died 1906, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married in Wood County, Ohio, December 26, 1848, Margaret L. McClucher born 1818 in Ohio and died 1891, also buried Greenwood.  Jackson served as a Corporal in Company D, 86th Infantry Regiment Ohio for 3 months.

WILLIS SUMNER WARNER, G.A.R., of Groveland, was born April 29, 1836 in New York, died March 15, 1925, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Groveland.  He married first, December 28, 1856, Warsaw, Kosciusko County, Indiana, Sarah Jane Carr, born March 1839 in Indiana, died January 10, 1902, and buried Oaklawn Cemetery, Algonac, St Clair Co, Michigan.  He married second, after 1902, Emily (mnu) born about 1850 in Vermont and died after 1930 in Florida.  Willis served as a Private in Company C, 4th Cavalry Regiment and Company I, 17th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps.  Willis applied for a Federal pension in Michigan, November 17, 1881, Cert #370958; his widow applied in Florida, April 10, 1925, Cert #A-10-21-26.

HIRAM WATTS, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born Dec 1823 in Pennsylvania, died 1903 in Lake County, and was reportedly buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married first about 1849, Sarah Ann (mnu) who was born about 1829 in Pennsylvania and died after 1880.  Hiram married second, about 1886, Mary Taylor Lowrason born May 1861 in Canada and died April 4, 1926 in Tampa; buried Eustis. Hiram was listed in the WPA Register of Deceased Veterans for Lake County; service was not given or identified.

LORENZO O. WEST, G.A.R., was born January 1841 in Vermont, died after 1913, and was buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont with military gravestone.  He married first about 1868, Nancy A. (mnu) born about 1847 in Vermont; they divorced before 1900.  Lorenzo married second about 1903, Alice A. (mnu) born about 1860 in Canada; divorced by January 1914 and she moved to Merrimack County, New Hampshire.  He was on the 1890 Veterans schedule in Bridgewater, Windsor County, Vermont.  From Shelburne, Vermont, he served as a Private in the Vermont 1st Light Artillery Battery and from Pomfret, Vertion, served in Regular Army 1st LA Batty F Light Artillery Battery.  He received a Federal pension, applied for March 15, 1916, App #566097, Cert #443757.

JOHN E. WHEELOCK, G.A.R., was born 1843, died 1899, and buried Wheelock Private Cemetery near Grand Island.  He served as Lieutenant in Company I, 137th New York Volunteer Infantry.

RANDOLPH WHITE, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born May 13, 1847, Stockwell, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, died April 22, 1924, Mount Dora, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married about 1883, Nellie D. Adams born April 1861 in Illinois, died 1944, and was buried Pine Forest.  Randolph served as  Private in Company G, 72nd Infantry Regiment Indiana.   He applied for a Federal pension in New Jersey, July 12, 1914, Cert #1013103; his widow applied in Florida, May 3, 1924, Cert #951447.

NORMAN W. WHITNEY, G.A.R., of Mount Dora, was born January 20, 1828, died May 2, 1913, and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married second about 1854, Ann A. (mnu) born about 1833 in Massachusetts, married third, about 1866, Charlotte McConoughey born February 16, 1836 in Ohio, died July 20, 1912, and also buried in Pine Forest.  Norman served as a Private in Company B, 40th Infantry Regiment Iowa and 2nd Lieutenant in Company B, 6th Colored Infantry Regiment Arkansas, later consolidated into 113th United States Colored Troops (New).  African American Civil War Memorial - Displayed as: Norman Whitney - Plaque Number: D-111

WILLIAM E. WHITRIDGE, G.A.R., was born 1832, died May 8, 1891, and was buried Sorrento Cemetery.  He married first, October 1, 1857, Preble County, Ohio, Sarah Revel, born about 1837 in Ohio and died before 1869.  He married second, November 1869, Cincinnati, Lottie (mnu) born about 1850 in Ohio and died before 1880.  William served as Private, Sergeant, 2nd and 1st Lieutenant, and Captain in Company H, 43rd Infantry Regiment Indiana.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, March 5, 1888, Cert #493516.

JOHN T. WILLIAMS, G.A.R., no dates, reportedly buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He served as Adjutant, F & S Company, 11th Regiment, Kansas Cavalry.

AMOS A. WILLIAMSON, G.A.R., May 1841 in Ohio, died after 1900 and was buried Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.  He married about 1870, Nancy R. “Nannie” (mnu) who was born January 1843 in Ohio.  Amos served as a Private and Musician in Company C, 35th Infantry Regiment Ohio.  He applied for a Federal pension in Iowa, May 12, 1888, Cert #444853.  His widow applied in Florida, September 21, 1912, Cert #752247.

MERRITT WILLIS, G.A.R., no dates, Glendale Cemetery, Umatilla.  He served as a Private in Company H, 117th Infantry Regiment U.S. Colored Troops; enlisted at Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky.  He applied for a Federal pension in Kentucky, November 1, 1882, Cert #unreadable.  African American Civil War Memorial - Displayed as: Merritt Willis - Plaque Number: D-119.

JACOB NELSON WILSON, G.A.R., of Mascotte, was born 1846 in Virginia/West Virginia, died 1918, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Groveland.  He married first November 29, 1871, Marion County, West Virginia, Mary C. Floyd, born about 1853 in Virginia/West Virginia.  He married second, about 1897, Mary Livina Platt born April 5, 1873 in Ohio, died December 8, 1938, Okahumpka, and also buried Greenwood.  He was on the 1890 Veterans schedule in Farmington, Marion County, West Virginia, and to Mascotte by 1910.  Jacob served as a Private in Company E, 14th Infantry Regiment West Virginia.  He applied for a Federal pension in West Virginia; his widow applied in Florida, info not available.

JOHN M. WINSLOW, G.A.R., of Okahumpka, was born August 7, 1833 in New York, New York, died February 20, 1920, and was buried Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg.  He married second, February 11, 1897, Lake County, Mrs Susan Sneed Torian Perkins. Sue was born August 1840 in Kentucky and died January 9, 1925, and was buried Lone Oak Cemetery.  John homesteaded 160.64 acres in SE quarter of Section 5, T23-S R26-E and received his patent July 20, 1901.  He served in the New York Volunteer Infantry.  No further information has been identified.

JOHN WOLZ, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born February 1836 in Germany, immigrated in 1862, died 1905, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married second, about 1890, Barbara Weber born August 5, 1858 in Cincinnati, Ohio and died March 6, 1936 in Eustis.  John served as a Private in Company B, 41st Infantry Regiment New York, enlisting at Tarrytown, New York.  Barbara applied for a Federal pension August 14, 1905, Cert #601820.

GUEL M. WOOD, G.A.R., of Leesburg, was born December 1846 in New York, died June 5, 1930 at Fruitland Park, and was buried Shiloh Cemetery, Fruitland Park. He married first about 1868 in Ohio, Almira (mnu) who was born November 1847 in Michigan and died May 18, 1909 at Norwalk, Huron County, Ohio.  He married second September 6, 1911, Myrtle May Hutcheson who was born about March 22, 1873 in Green Springs, Sandusky County, Ohio and died April 7, 1930 in Orlando, Orange County, and buried Green Springs, Ohio.  Guel served as a Musician in Company D, 55th Infantry Regiment Ohio and a Private in Company K, 176th Regiment, Ohio Infantry.  He applied for a Federal pension in Ohio, April 20, 1898, Cert #757501.

SORANUS S. WOOD, G.A.R., of Fruitland Park, was born March 1837 in Ohio, died 1909 in Los Angeles County, California and buried Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum, Altadena.  He married January 1, 1868, Washington County, Ohio, Elizabeth S. “Lizzie” Patton who was born 1843 in Ohio and died January 4, 1900.  She was buried Lone Oak.  Their only child, Sarah E. "Bessie" was born January 1870 in Ohio, died after her father.  The family came to Fruitland Park in 1882 from Marietta, Washington County, Ohio where he was a lumber merchant and foreman in a factory.  He was Postmaster in Fruitland Park for many years, leaving in 1900 after his wife died.  S. S. served as a Private in Company K, 7th Regiment, Ohio Cavalry.  He applied for a Federal pension March 6, 1878, Cert #172301.

THEOPHILUS E. WOODWARD, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born October 16, 1847 in Green County, Ohio, died January 7, 1920 at Eustis, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married September 8, 1889 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Alice Hibbert who was born July 7, 1853 in Droylesdon, England, immigrated in 1857, and died January 4, 1931 in Eustis, Lake County. They were early settlers in Eustis.  Theophilus served as a Corporal in Company F, 10th Infantry Regiment Tennessee.  He applied for a Federal pension in Florida, Cert #1034496; his widow applied in Florida, Cert #538203.

ALBERT D. WRIGHT, G.A.R., of Eustis, was born December 10, 1842, Elkland, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, died February 15, 1926 in Tampa, and was buried Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.  He married 1879 in Woodstock, Canada, Jeannette Taylor Tucker, born November 7, 1854 in Canada and died June 9, 1917 in Orlando.  Albert served as a Sergeant in Company A, 149th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania and as a Captain in Company G, 43rd Infantry Regiment U.S. Colored Troops.  He received a Medal of Honor.  Albert applied for a Federal pension in Pennsylvania, June 26, 1889, Application #713372, Cert #508971.
