Jack Roberts Family

Jack and Frances Brown Roberts were both killed by Indians during the 3rd Seminole War.  They were supposedly buried in an old Indian Cemetery ner Okahumpka Fl.  When the family went there to visit around the 1920's the cemetery had been planted in orange grove.  One of those visiting was the youngest daughter of Jack and Frances, and a grand daughter.  "Frances Fannie" told them that the girls, five of them were raised by their mother's family, the Browns.

We have searched the last 15 years and never found Jack and Frances since the 1840 census in Lee County, GA.  All five of the girls were married in Sumter or Polk County.  The girls were Lucinda (Cindy), Arminda (Mindy),  Malinda (Lindy), Amanda (Mandy), and Mary Frances, (Fannie).  My great aunt and grandmother knew them by these nicknames.

Information from my 3rd cousin is that Jack Roberts was known as Whistling Jac Roberts and they both were of Indian blood, one full bloodedaand he other half blooded.  When you see the pictures of the five girls there is no doubt that they are of different bloodlines than the usual.  I would say that info is correct.

I've searched old newspapers for Indian attacks in that area but no luck.

We've searched the census records for the girls with the possibility tht they were listed under their Nicknames and also under the Brown name.  Conatact has been made with descendants of the girls but one.
