Yalaha Cemetery East

Yalaha, Lake, Florida

DIRECTIONS TO YALAHA CEMETERY

On County Road 48 in Lake County, Florida, locate the Yalaha Post Office adjacent to the west side of BC’s Grocery, about mid-way on the 8-mile stretch of 2-lane highway between State Route 27 and Howey-in-the-Hills; then proceed one half mile east of the Post Office to Guava Road, turn right (south) and continue one half mile to cemetery on both sides of paved road.

Nellie G. Holley, Tampa Historical Society, conducted the original reading of the Yalaha cemetery east of Guava Ave. in 1950, and Jackie Haworth and Sue Dygert completed a reading on June 1, 1983, also on the east side of Guava Ave.  The data from these two readings are published in Volume 5 of the Lake County Cemeteries series of books, and is indicated by the § symbol.  This book can be found in the Leesburg Library in the genealogical reference room in section 929.50975922.

Melanie Elliott, present custodian of records for the cemetery on the east side of Guava, provided the interment data base.  Les Deatherage completed the reading of the inscriptions on March 14, 2003 for the east side, and March 17, 2003 for the west side.  Johnnie Warren provided assistance in locating some of the missing data for inscriptions on the west side.
