I'm researching a former Union soldier named Alvin Stearns, who served in the 8th NY Cavalry, and was one of General Sheridan's top scouts. April, 1884, was born in Eustis, where they came to live when the Louisiana Pacific Railroad opened up. Alvin was killed Dec. 14, 1886 while coupling railroad cars in Plaquemine, Louisiana.
